Experts agree that reading aloud to your child every day is the most important activity you can do to help assure your child’s academic success

Here’s what you can do:

Read aloud to your child daily

Turn off the T.V. and play with your child

Allow babies ‘tummy time’ each day

Make time for  your child: Give your child your undivided attention and fully engage with them daily

Allow our children to initiate play and follow their lead

Ask open ended questions that do not have a right answer

Have your child wear properly fitting helmets--for skiing, biking, skateboarding, scootering

Have your child in a properly installed child safety seat in the car at all times

Keep harmful household products locked away

Allow and encourage 1 hour of physical play activity a day

Introduce lots of fruits and vegetables … remember it can take up to 10 times before they decide if they like it

Parents, too, can demonstrate a healthy lifestyle by eating well and getting exercise, it is a good way to help us deal with stress

Take a parenting class

Get a comprehensive health screen for your child (vision, dental, developmental, hearing etc.)

As a parent, remember to take time daily to slow down, breathe and relax (go for a walk, take a warm bath, talk to a friend, read a book)
